S. Mitchell Gold

Mitchell works with the natural alignment of the body through the modalities of yoga, bodywork, and meditation.

His structural integrity workshops focus on alignment and balance.  The workshops’ aim is to develop your ability to ‘see’, analyze, and support the body’s structural integrity in both static and dynamic situations.

These workshops utilize principles from Structural Integration - originated by Dr. Ida P. Rolf - to understand imbalance, and investigate methods to address the ‘fascial’ (specialized connective tissue) layering within the body to release tension. This allows the body to return to balance and alignment.

These workshops are highly interactive, hands-on, and intended to build practical skills.

They are recommended for yoga practitioners, therapists, masseurs, acrobats and anyone who wants to deepen their knowledge of anatomy according to Structural Integration.

Mitchell is an Advanced Practitioner of Structural Integration, and has 50+ years of practical experience in resolving injury through bodywork.  He teaches in the US, Latin America, Europe, and Asia.

The process involves deep, slow work with fascia (specialized connective tissue) layering, and can be received as an individual session - e.g. to relieve shoulder stress - or as a more wholistic series.

If you would like to work on structural alignment, whole body integrity, or the resolution of physical strain, please discuss this work with Mitchell.

Mitchell is also a long-term practitioner, and Level II Authorized teacher of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.

As a teacher of Ashtanga Vinyasa , Mitchell has an approach that is supportive and sympathetic to the needs of yoga practitioners as well as other movement disciplines (e.g. dance, martial arts).

The Structural Integration Technique

"It's not about how deep you go, it's about how to go deep" - Dr. Ida P. Rolf

It's not about how deep you go, it's how you go deep - Dr. Ida P. Rold

Structural Integration is a holistic and scientifically proven technique that is based on deep tissue manipulation and movement education.  By contacting and adjusting the system of fascial (connective tissue), tension is released in the tissue and the body is re-balanced and realigned with the earth's gravitational field.  The result can be more energy, increased breathing capacity, elimination of chronic pain, and a restored sense of well-being.

Structural Integration was developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf, a biochemist at Columbia University in the early 1940's.  With a profound understanding of physics, she focused on the role and function of the connective or myofascial tissue surrounding the organs, muscles, bones and joints, lending the body shape and support.

Dr. Rolf started from the premise that symptoms of pain and stress are a result of the body's response to gravity.  She found that wholeness and balance can be restored by guiding the body's system with posturing and structuring, thus reducing physical as well as emotional stress.
